Morris Art Gallery in
NOTO ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT
The Morris Art Gallery was made possible by a generous donation from Betty Morris. The gallery generally features a new show each month starting on the First Friday.
Application and Exhibit Process
Artists interested in exhibiting must complete the Gallery Show Application form along with at least five jpeg images of proposed exhibit works. Exhibit space is open to all; however, preference will be given to artists residing in Shawnee County. Applications may be submitted any time and will be juried by the Gallery Committee. Notification of acceptance and possible dates will be sent in a timely manner.
Artists may indicate their preference for show month, but ultimately the schedule is determined by the Gallery Committee. Exhibits are generally open to the public for the First Friday Artwalk. However, a private showing for Friends of NOTO may be scheduled for the Thursday prior, so all artwork must be available for display no later than the Tuesday prior.
Artists are responsible for installing their own show, though at least one person from the gallery committee will be present to assist/direct. All works must be framed/displayed properly for exhibit and should include labels with prices. All pieces must fit through the outside building and gallery doors. The outside building door is 36 inches by 80 inches. The inside door into the gallery is 68 inches by 78 inches. The gallery has a hanging system, but movable walls may be nailed into it. A few pedestals are available. Applicants are urged to visit the gallery to see the space prior to applying.
All works must be dismounted and collected by the removal day scheduled. The Arts Center does not have sufficient storage space, so if pieces are not taken down within a week of the removal schedule, the art works will be disposed of at the discretion of the Arts Center.
Artwork insurance is not provided by the Art Center. It is the responsibility of the individual artist/s.
Exhibiting
The NOTO Arts Center is dedicated in providing a space for local and regional artists to exhibit their work to the community. The Arts Center staff are supported by a cadre of volunteers, many of them talented local artists with careers devoted to perfecting their art, working in arts education or working for community arts programs. There is no charge to local artists to exhibit in the Morris Gallery. To make this possible, our artists are our partners: artists set-up and take-down; handle their own sales; there is no commission; there is no fee to hang.
Expectations for a Successful Exhibit
The NOTO Arts & Entertainment District will help promote the exhibit by posting on the NOTO website and through social media. Artists are expected to fully participate in marketing their exhibit by working with the Gallery Committee to provide patron invitation lists and images of work for marketing purposes.
Exhibiting artists are expected to be available for the private showing and the public showing. They should also provide business cards or flyers that may be shared with visitors.
